Back to Base Monitoring Don't have a phone line? GPRS/Ethernet Plans Communication Formats

Back to Base Monitoring:

Back-to-Base monitoring is a service that can be added to your new or existing security system that takes the onus away from your neighbours to notify authorities when your alarm sirens activate.

As soon as any untoward activity is detected by your system i.e. power fail, intrusion, tamper, etc. your security system will automatically send an event to our 24-hour monitoring centre.

It is then only a matter of seconds before one of our highly trained operators assesses this information and depending on what events are received, can:

  • Call the premise to confirm the exact nature of the emergency
  • Call you or others on your emergency contact list to notify you of the situation
  • Send out a patrol guard to investigate if required
  • Send the Police, Fire Brigade or Ambulance

Note: The above is a generic plan and action, however each client will be able to setup their own specific plan in which our operators will follow and action immediately on your terms.

Don't have a phone line? We have you covered!

GPRS monitoring is achieved by connecting a GPRS unit to your security system. Once connected our GPRS unit will send all of your alarm events via the mobile phone network with the additional feature of sending small data packets at specified intervals allowing our Security Monitoring Centre to identify any loss in communication. Our GPRS unit will check your connection at varied times from 10 seconds (for high security applications) to 12 hours (for lower security applications). This is known as polling. Our GPRS devices provides up to 5 pathways, Single SIM GPRS, Dual SIM GPRS, Ethernet, PSTN & GSM, independent paths from your premise to our Security Monitoring Centre. Our Primary GPRS provider is Telstra, backup is Vodaphone, Ethernet, PSTN and GSM is via clients existing services if high security is required in addition to GPRS only. Our GPRS units are compliant and certified to Australian Standard AS2201.5-2008 for all Classes 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 of the Standard.

Benefits of GPRS Communications:
With mobile phones so prominent these days there is becoming less need for a land line connection. A GPRS unit can be installed and there is no need for any ongoing phone call charges or the need for a landline phone plan to simply have back to base monitoring. Your only ongoing fee is the back to Base monitoring charge. No plan fees, no phone call fees, just your monitoring.

With NBN connections you do not need to worry about phone line reliability and do not need to worry about being reliant on power to ensure you have back to base monitoring at all times.

GPRS units cannot be interfered with by a potential intruder from outside of the premises. The intruder would firstly need to enter the building, setting the alarm off and as a result alerting the control room of the breach, then have to locate the unit to have any effect on the system.

GPRS units have never been more affordable than they are today. With the increase of mobile phones being manufactured, GPRS units are in larger supply now and the cost of parts have decreased considerably.

GPRS/Ethernet Plans Available

Communications Formats

DIALLER
Dialler monitoring is the most common format used around the world and is achieved by connecting your security system to an existing landline at your premise. The transmission of all alarm events will be sent via the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Local call fees will therefore apply. Our Security Monitoring Centre will not be aware of any line faults or any deliberate attempts to cut the telephone line until a routine weekly test event is not received. Please refer below to GSM or GPRS for higher forms of communication to minimise this risk.

GSM
GSM monitoring is achieved by connecting a GSM unit to your security system. A GSM unit can either be used as your systems primary dialler in applications where no landlines are present or be set up as a secondary "back up" dialler. When used as a secondary dialler the GSM unit will constantly monitor the landline that your security system is connected to and will switch to the GSM interface in the event of a line failure. The transmission of all alarm events will then be sent via the mobile phone network until the landline is reinstated. Standard mobile connection fees and plan rates will therefore apply. Please note, a SIM card is required for this option (prepaid SIM cards are not recommended).

GPRS
